Film Magazine Review Draft 1
The magazine review will be in the same format as those in the Sight and Sound magazine.
United Kingdom
Director: Ben Bishop
Certificate:
I understand this film completely. The situation which Ella is in is one we all dread. When you love someone enough but are faced with the decision of devoting one hundred percent towards them and breaking away the outcome will always be painful. Ajax, on the other hand, has an even tougher decision on his hands. It is clear to see through mise-en-scene, proxemics and other film elements just how much he wants her but his shakey/ never risk anything kind of personality is his downfall. Some could say that this is reminiscent of the Shakespear story of Romeo and Juliet but without the death and controlling families. The Christmas setting makes this all the more heartwrenching however I personally would have prefered it if it was set around a wedding or some other romantic event such as valentines day. The destination of Ella is a subtle nod to the director's previous work in which another female character, Jess, was followed by a boy who failed to express his emotions for her. The film has a rather bittersweet tone - underpinned with a likeable story and topped with a real insight into just how painful love can be when you are the one who cares the most.
Note to reader: This is just the text, the final draft of this task will be editing into a black column of a Sight and Sound Page
