Eight Potential Story Ideas

  1. The most vivid memory I have, provided by The Beacon, was back when I first started. I, personally, was bullied by being called names linked to homsexuality. Words such as “bender” were used the most due to it containing my own name - Ben. This tragic event made me the stronger person I am today and has inspired me to possibly implement it as the main topic for my short film. I would firstly make some alterations, such as the age of the actors. There are two reasons why I would choose to do this. The first being that the majority of people I know (who are willing to act) are of similar age to me. The second reason is because the majority of the time, being bullied at an older age can be a lot worse; since your mind is a lot more developed and stress is a constant factor which overhangs us all like an omnipotent being. I would then develop this story further by having the bully, be the one who is a homosexual. The reason why he is bullying the other boy is because he uses the time to relieve stress since he cannot tell his parents or friends because he thinks they will disown him.

  1. Later in life, during the six weeks holiday. I became great friends with a boy in one of my classes from school. He was well known for his intelligence and confidence in class. I kept in contact with him as we left school however when I recently met up with him, it was as clear as crystal that we had grown to be two completely different people. He was now not so fond of the education system and instead spent his time exploring his neighbourhood and just living life how he wanted. I was the complete opposite. I enjoyed my studies and was not so fond of going outside (more on that later). The main topic of this story is about rebellion - since the main character would be the boy who doesn't care much for his studies any longer. To develop this story I would also show off his home life and parents since this will provide the audience with a greater knowledge of what was expected from this character and how he has grown.

  1. Revenge solves everything. Is what our main character believes when a nasty lie is spread about him at school. The lie is so bad that is affects even his closest friends. A year later and our character has had enough. He decides to take action, he wants to get to the bottom of who started it and why, no matter what and exact his revenge. Violence will be a frequent theme throughout the production.

  1. Gang conflict. Just like football teams, once you've chosen your gang, you are with them till the day you die. This was obviously something a gang member did not know when deciding to “switch sides” during a fight between two large gangs. And now, The gang are after this traitor in order to teach him a lesson and to show what true respect really is - since the gang has very serious rules about betrayal, it's completely up the the defending gang to keep their new member safe… or find an alternative before another gang war breaks out.

  1. A story which follows just one boy or girl who is struggling in every aspect of his/her life. We watch as they go through it all as just when they think things are going to get better, their closest friend who helps them keep it together leaves town. Now on the mental edge our character decides enough is enough and decides to take their own life. Right at the last second a new character, one who has been observing for a long time steps forward in order to help the other character through such tough times but are they too late?

  1. Mental illnesses taken to a new level. (Silent connection) Two completely new people meet each other and barely talk. One has severe depression whilst the other suffers from mild anxiety. Although they hardly talk to one another, something between the two of them clicks. The story shows them and how they react in different environments; such as their own homes, events outside and so on…

  1. A delusional character who has wild thoughts.
  1. Two boys who were best friends, they both knew a girl. One of the boys was agreed to marry the girl whilst the girl had already fallen in love with the other boy. Being pressured the girl takes her own life, leaving the two boys alone. One wants to grab the other by the throat and blames him for what happened whilst the other remains calm but struggles to move on. The boy who was agreed to marry attempts to hurt the other boy as many times as he can before deciding he has had enough and gives in (plans on taking his own life) it is at this time where the other boy steps forward and decides to save his friend.
